Perennial Institute

The Perennial Institute is an education organisation exploring creativity through the lens of plants. We designed their creative card deck, which, in harmony with socio-cultural and environmental well-being, looks to encourage creative processes that gel with the natural world. Inspired by the format of the iconic Oblique Strategies cards developed by Brian Eno and Peter Schmidt, users are encourage to pick a card at random or pose a question, and select the card they feel drawn to. They are the tarot cards of the “creative-practice-in-collaboration-with-plants” world.

  • We designed the card pack and packaging in a do-it-yourself, print-at-home format, for practitioners to easily print and assemble at home during lockdowns.

Each card is based on thoughts and actions that are explored through Perennial Institute’s programming. The illustrations themselves emerged from one of the card’s prompts – to go for a walk and document the leaves you find on your way.
